As America has nearly shut down overnight due to the coronavirus pandemic, our local business community has acutely felt the loss of customers and its community. Many business owners are wondering whether they can weather the economic storm. While the precautions that have forced us indoors to stop the spread of the virus are necessary, we can still show our support for our local stores, restaurants, coffee shops, and other businesses. Even if we can’t give them our patronage in person right now, we can visit their websites online and purchase gift cards for ourselves and others. If restaurants are offering take-out or delivery, we can order from them regularly to help keep them afloat. Consider shopping online from local merchants for your needs, even if products aren’t available immediately.
At a time when so much feels out of our control, there is plenty we can do to help our local businesses survive these challenging times. Recently we’ve seen how businesses have stepped up to the plate to help us, from offering special shopping hours for the elderly, making extra efforts to clean and sanitize, to doing their best to re-stock supplies. Now, let’s do what we can for them.
